KENS CROSSING
Named after Ken Downs
Home of the Marsden Mine (named after Bob Marsden), Kens Crossing has an mechanically interlocked lever frame with electrically controlled signals and points, and is one of only two mainline locations on the layout without public passenger facilities. Kens Crossing has only six sets of points, a passing loop for the mainline and one industry; the Marsden Mine, where coal trains are loaded to travel to Morehouse.
Predominantly used as a passing loop for trains travelling between Gorfield and Armstrong, Kens Crossing is also a junction for the Reversing Loop tunnel to Morehouse, with trains entering the tunnel in the down direction at Kens Crossing and emerging in Morehouse facing in the up direction. In timetable sessions this tunnel is generally not used as a through-connection.
The loop in Kens Crossing passes under the up end of Littlebank Yard, and a single small platform is present at Marsden Mine for a railmotor to transport mine workers.
