ST. JOHN
Named after Stuart 'St John' Westerman
The originating location of the Stonnington Valley Railway (down direction of travel indicates away from St. John, up direction indicates towards St. John).
St. John is the largest station on the layout, with 3 full-length passenger platforms, a railmotor platform, a large locomotive shed, and mutiple dedicated passenger and goods stabling sidings. St. John is also the origin of the branchline to New England.
St. John is only one of two stations on the layout to have a second full-sized operating panel (the other being Gorfield), with the passenger area of the station having a dedicated panel (St. John Pass Yard) that can be switched-in when required via the main panel. However un-like Gorfield, all points in the yard can be controlled via the main St. John panel when the Pass Yard panel is switched-out. Most sessions see St. John only operated by one person.
In August 2023 work began to modify the yard in St. John to 'swap' the locations of the locomotive depot and the goods industries.
