STONNINGTON
Situated in the former location of the drivers cabs, Stonnington is the largest goods yard on the Stonnington Valley Railway. The yard has 13 tracks for the stabling and organising of trains, no industries and no passenger facilities. The mainline travels in a balloon shape around and under the sidings, with the branchline from Gorfield to Graeme Siding and Ebinger curving around the rear of the yard, crossing over the mainline on a large bridge.
Stonnington is the only panel on the layout to use entrance/exit style controls for the routing of trains. The yard also has two headshunt roads that lead into a dead-end tunnel underneath the mainline from Gorfield, with a pair of signals over the tunnel entrance changing colour as train approaches the end of the headshunt, allowing trains to be shunted locally without disrupting mainline movements.
